According to municipal sources, officers responded to reports of a disturbance at the postal facility, where they encountered an individual exhibiting extremely aggressive behavior. Upon arrival, the suspect reportedly lunged at the responding officers, prompting them to deploy a Taser to gain control of the situation. The use of the non-lethal electric weapon successfully immobilized the man, allowing officers to proceed with his arrest without further escalation.
Three of the five individuals assaulted sustained serious injuries, including possible fractures, while the remaining two suffered minor wounds. All victims were users of the post office at the time of the attack. Municipal authorities confirmed that the detained suspect was first taken to a medical center for evaluation before being transferred to police facilities, where he remains in custody pending judicial proceedings.
The Seville City Council’s Security Department emphasized that the swift resolution of the incident was made possible by the recent introduction of Taser weapons to the municipal police arsenal. Officials noted that this type of non-lethal electric device delivers controlled discharges designed to temporarily immobilize an aggressor, enabling officers to neutralize threats while minimizing the risk of fatal force.
“The situation was brought under immediate control thanks to the Taser,” a municipal security spokesperson stated, underscoring the tool’s effectiveness in high-risk encounters. The weapon has been progressively rolled out to Seville’s Local Police over recent months as part of a broader strategy to enhance officer safety and improve responses to violent incidents.
The Local Police Union of Seville (SPLS) also praised the officers’ actions, describing their response as “rapid and effective” and highlighting the Taser deployment as “key to halting a dangerous situation.” Union representatives noted that the incident demonstrates the value of providing frontline officers with proportionate, non-lethal options when confronting aggressive individuals.
The attack has shaken the local community, with residents expressing concern over public safety in what is typically a calm neighborhood. The post office remained closed for several hours following the incident as forensic teams collected evidence and investigators interviewed witnesses. Municipal authorities have assured the public that additional patrols have been deployed in the area as a precautionary measure.
While the motive behind the assault remains under investigation, preliminary accounts suggest the suspect was acting alone and that the victims were selected at random. Authorities have not released the identity of the detained man, nor have they disclosed whether mental health factors, substance use, or other circumstances may have contributed to his behavior.
The use of Tasers by Spanish police forces has been the subject of ongoing debate regarding protocols, training, and oversight. Seville’s municipal police have emphasized that officers receive specialized instruction on the appropriate deployment of the weapon, with strict guidelines intended to ensure its use is proportionate and accountable.
As the investigation continues, local officials have reiterated their commitment to public safety and to supporting the victims of the attack. The City Council has activated municipal social services to provide assistance to those affected, and health authorities are monitoring the condition of the seriously injured.
“This incident reminds us of the unpredictable nature of violence in public spaces,” said a municipal representative. “Our priority is ensuring that our police have the tools and training they need to protect citizens while respecting fundamental rights.”
The case now moves to the judicial phase, with prosecutors expected to review the circumstances of the arrest and the use of force. Meanwhile, community leaders have called for calm and cooperation with authorities as the investigation unfolds.
Note: This report is based on official statements from the Seville City Council, the Local Police of Seville, and the Local Police Union (SPLS). The identity of the detained suspect and the victims has been withheld in accordance with Spanish data protection laws and presumption of innocence principles. All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty under judicial proceedings.
