MADRID, Spain – The president of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has launched a fierce attack against Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez following his appearance in Congress to report on the Ceuta crisis, stating that Sánchez only attended the session to say he was unaware of the situation, absolving himself of any responsibility. Feijóo has demanded that the prime minister resign, whether what he said is true or false, arguing he must step down either for incompetence or for being complicit.
Feijóo Demands Confinement of Contagious Migrants in Ceuta
The opposition leader maintained that behind the mass entry into the autonomous city on July 30 and 31 there are political and judicial responsibilities, and for the former, he called for the dissolution of parliament and new elections. He also noted that there is already a case open in the National Court which he warned would probably reach the Supreme Court, adding that the government is already aware of this because they are acting on legal advice. Feijóo warned that Sánchez would pay for this before the courts and at the ballot box.
Feijóo also reproached the prime minister for not interrupting his holidays during the crisis, telling him that if he wanted a holiday, he should call elections, as a president does not have the right to neglect his duties, especially during a state crisis. The opposition leader dismissed the idea that Morocco had no involvement in the mass entry, pointing to reports that have emerged indicating the participation of Moroccan gendarmes, stating that the operation originated in Morocco, was consented to by Morocco, and there are indications Morocco coordinated it.
Feijóo accused Sánchez of trying to ridicule the state’s intelligence services, calling it a disgrace and a colossal irresponsibility, and insisted that the prime minister has lied to the Spanish people all this time because he knew and covered it up. He questioned the government’s relationship with Morocco, asking what document, conversation, or indication was on Sánchez’s phone to make him behave in such a way, why he is so afraid of Morocco, and what Morocco knows about him, referring to the Pegasus case.
Feijóo demanded that Sánchez personally assume the unified command with courage and firmness, and that he identify those who entered as quickly as possible, using all necessary state resources to ensure their return. He insisted that the European Pact on Immigration and Asylum provides legal cover for immediate returns, stating that an attack on territorial integrity is not to be managed but repelled.
The opposition leader also offered his government plan on the matter, promising that when he governs Spain, he will have autonomous capacity to protect its borders with more reinforcements and technological means, will not subcontract sovereignty to anyone, will recover a healthy and responsible policy with Morocco, and major foreign policy decisions will be debated in parliament and defend national interests.

The outcome of the judicial investigation and potential legal proceedings will likely determine the future political landscape.
