GIRONA, Spain – The Mossos d’Esquadra arrested a 17-year-old youth on Friday, 18 September, accused of being the alleged perpetrator of a sexual assault in Vidreres, in the Selva region. The individual, whose nationality and police record have not been disclosed, approached the 22-year-old woman and threatened her with a sickle. The Catalan police have not provided further details of the arrest, and it is unknown whether the minor may have attempted to assault other victims using the same method.

The sexual assault took place on Saturday, 12 September, at midday in a wooded area of the Aiguaviva Parc urbanisation. The victim, who did not know the minor at all, was running along some paths when the man suddenly approached her, threatened her with the bladed weapon, namely the sickle, and raped her. When the individual fled, the victim called emergency services, which activated the protocol. The Medical Emergency System transferred the young woman to a hospital so that the forensic examiner could conduct an examination, while the Mossos d’Esquadra, who took a statement from the victim, began inquiries to identify the perpetrator of the assault.
The Criminal Investigation Division of the Girona police region of the Mossos d’Esquadra, which took charge of the case upon becoming aware of it, arrested the youth yesterday afternoon. He was placed at the disposal of the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office and, as confirmed by the High Court of Justice of Catalonia today, Saturday 19 September, has been placed in closed detention. Officers continue with the investigation open, according to the Catalan police.
Three Arrested in Playa de Palma for Assault and Attempted Sexual Aggression
This is not the first arrest related to a sexual assault of a minor made by the Mossos d’Esquadra during that week. On 16 September, the Catalan police arrested a boy, also 17 years old, who allegedly forced a minor girl to perform oral sex in Sant Joan de les Abadesses. In this case, the individual, a resident of Ripoll of Maghrebi origin, assaulted the girl, whom he already knew, in the early hours of Sunday, 13 September, during the town’s Main Festival in the Ripollès region.
