BADALONA, Catalonia — A ten-year-old girl sustained a minor injury after being struck by a stray bullet during a shootout between Roma family clans in the Sant Roc neighborhood of Badalona on Thursday evening, according to municipal sources and the Mossos d’Esquadra.

The incident occurred shortly after 7:00 p.m. on Calle de Còrdova, when an exchange of gunfire erupted between rival family groups in the residential area. The minor, who was present in the public thoroughfare at the time, was struck in the arm by a ricocheted bullet. Family members immediately transported the girl to a nearby medical center, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) of the Mossos d’Esquadra has assumed responsibility for the investigation to establish the precise circumstances surrounding the shooting. Forensic officers examined the scene and recovered shell casings as part of efforts to identify those responsible and reconstruct the sequence of events.
According to sources familiar with the case, the injured girl belongs to a family well-known in the neighborhood with a documented history of conflicts, including several members currently serving prison sentences. Following the shooting, witnesses reported observing family members of the minor displaying firearms and expressing intentions of retaliation, actions that may have been captured on video recordings circulated locally.
Investigators are working to determine whether this latest violent episode is connected to another shootout that occurred earlier in the week in the same Sant Roc neighborhood. The Mossos d’Esquadra have deployed specialized ARRO units from the Northern Metropolitan Region to the area to deter further incidents and reinforce public safety.
Exchanges of gunfire between family groups in Sant Roc have occurred with some frequency, reflecting broader challenges related to organized conflict and public order in certain urban areas. Police sources indicated that another firearm-related incident was recorded in the same neighborhood over the weekend, underscoring ongoing security concerns.
Beyond Badalona, authorities noted that a separate shooting in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, on the opposite side of the Barcelona metropolitan area, also resulted in an injury this weekend, with the Mossos conducting parallel investigations into both incidents.

Badalona Mayor Xavier Garcia Albiol addressed the events through social media, issuing a strong statement condemning the families involved in the confrontation. The mayor called for decisive and courageous action to address what he described as groups “incapable of living in society,” linking such conflicts to issues including illegal occupation of housing, fraudulent utility connections, and unauthorized marijuana cultivation.
Mayor Albiol also criticized what he termed “the squatting mafia,” asserting that current legislation protects such activities and that the national government has refused to modify relevant laws. His remarks reflect ongoing political debate regarding housing policy, public order, and the balance between enforcement measures and social intervention strategies.
Sant Roc, located near the border with Sant Adrià de Besòs and adjacent to the C-31 highway, has experienced periodic challenges related to public safety and community cohesion. Local and regional authorities have implemented various initiatives aimed at addressing underlying factors contributing to instability while maintaining robust enforcement against violent offenses.
Under Spanish criminal law, illegal possession of firearms, discharging weapons in public spaces, and assault with a deadly weapon constitute serious criminal offenses carrying significant penalties upon conviction. Prosecutors will evaluate all available evidence, including forensic analysis, witness statements, surveillance footage, and ballistic testing, to determine appropriate charges and procedural next steps.
For residents in affected neighborhoods, authorities have reiterated the importance of reporting suspicious activity, unusual sounds, or concerning behavior to police immediately to enable timely intervention. Community engagement and information-sharing remain central components of broader public safety strategies designed to address both immediate security concerns and longer-term preventive measures.

Further updates regarding investigative developments, arrests, or related security measures are expected as the Mossos d’Esquadra and relevant agencies provide additional information through verified sources.
