Moroccan Man Rapes A Terminally ill Woman In The Palliative Care Unit At Ibiza Hospital
IBIZA, Spain — The public Can Misses Hospital in Ibiza has implemented stringent new security measures following the alleged sexual assault of a 69-year-old terminally ill cancer patient. The victim, who was receiving palliative care at the facility, was reportedly attacked on May 14 by a 25-year-old Moroccan national who managed to breach the hospital’s wards in the early hours of the morning.

According to the ongoing investigation, the suspect forced his way through multiple access points before entering the vulnerable patient’s room. During the assault, the attacker allegedly held the woman by the neck and threatened to kill her if she called for help. Despite the extreme danger, the patient managed to activate her emergency call button while restrained. Alerted by the alarm, the suspect fled the premises by breaking through another door. He was apprehended by the National Police days later and subsequently admitted to the psychiatric unit of the same hospital for evaluation.
The incident has deeply shocked both the hospital staff and the specialized Unit of Family and Women (UFAM) of the National Police, given the extreme vulnerability of the victim. Investigations revealed that prior to this severe escalation, the young man had a documented history of violent altercations and public disturbances across Ibiza. His previous offenses included issuing threats, insulting locals and workers, and committing acts of vandalism against motorcycles and public property, which had already generated significant social alarm in the community. Following his arrest and psychiatric processing, a judicial order mandated his deportation from the island.
In response to the severe security breach, the management of Can Misses Hospital has initiated an urgent review of its protection systems to eliminate the vulnerabilities that allowed the intruder to reach the palliative care ward. A primary operational change involves advancing the closure of the main public entrance. Previously remaining open until 11:00 p.m., the main doors are now locked at 10:00 p.m. To ensure this transition is secure, the shifts of hospital orderlies have been extended so that the entrance is continuously supervised by staff during the lockdown period, ensuring no sensitive entry points are left unmonitored.

Furthermore, the hospital administration is moving to make the reinforcement of private security personnel a permanent, year-round fixture, abandoning the previous model where extra guards were only deployed during the busy summer tourist season. Additional structural upgrades have been applied to staff-only exterior doors, which have been retrofitted with enhanced card and code access controls to prevent unauthorized entry through restricted areas.
Complementing these physical measures, the hospital has launched an internal awareness campaign titled “You are the eyes of our patients.” This initiative, supported by training sessions from the contracted security firm, empowers medical and administrative staff to actively monitor the premises. The campaign instructs doctors, nurses, and orderlies to confront individuals wandering without clear purpose and to immediately report suspicious behavior in hospitalization and restricted zones, ensuring a collective approach to patient safety.

As the hospital continues to close the security gaps exposed by the May 14 incident, health authorities remain committed to ensuring that the facility remains a safe environment for the most vulnerable patients.
