Two Survive After Light Aircraft Makes Emergency Landing On Tenerife Street
SAN MIGUEL DE ABONA, Tenerife — Two men survived without serious injuries after a light aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing on a residential street in southern Tenerife on Thursday afternoon, ultimately crashing into a roundabout. The dramatic incident, which occurred in a populated area, did not result in any harm to pedestrians or other vehicles.

The emergency landing took place on Calle María de los Ángeles Ascanio Cullen, located in the Amarilla Golf area of the municipality of San Miguel de Abona, just a few kilometers from Tenerife South Airport. According to the Canary Islands Emergency Coordination Center (112 Canarias), the aircraft lost control upon touching down on the street and subsequently collided with a traffic roundabout.
Despite the severity of the crash, both occupants of the aircraft were able to exit the wreckage on their own. The pilot and passenger, identified as a 50-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, were immediately attended to by medical professionals at the scene. Although they did not appear to have suffered any apparent severe trauma, both men were transported to local medical facilities as a precautionary measure. The 50-year-old was transferred to Hospiten Sur, while the 20-year-old was taken to the Hospital del Sur for comprehensive medical observation and further health assessments.
The incident prompted a swift and coordinated multi-agency emergency response. In addition to the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), which dispatched three ambulances to the scene, the operation involved the Local Police and the Civil Guard, who worked to secure the perimeter and manage local traffic.

Because the crash resulted in a significant spill of aviation fuel onto the roadway, crews from the Tenerife Island Fire Department were deployed to the site. Firefighters applied specialized foam to the asphalt to neutralize the fuel spill, mitigate the risk of fire, and ensure the area was safe for cleanup and subsequent investigation.
The successful evacuation of the occupants and the absence of bystander casualties have been highlighted as fortunate outcomes of the emergency landing in an urbanized zone. Aviation authorities are expected to launch a formal investigation to determine the mechanical or operational failures that necessitated the emergency descent into a residential area just minutes from the island’s main international airport.

As the roadway is cleared and the fuel spill is fully remediated, local authorities will continue to coordinate with aviation investigators to establish the exact sequence of events that led to the crash. Further updates regarding the medical condition of the two men and the preliminary findings of the aviation inquiry are expected as relevant authorities provide additional information through official channels.
