BARCELONA, Catalonia — A Mossos d’Esquadra officer sustained facial injuries after being kicked during a highly tense arrest in the Raval neighborhood of Barcelona, an incident captured on video by witnesses and subsequently widely circulated on social media.

The confrontation occurred on Carrer de Robadors, a prominent street in the Ciutat Vella district, where regional police officers were executing a detention. During the operation, one officer had a suspect pinned to the ground and was focused on completing the arrest when the situation rapidly escalated.
Footage disseminated by the local neighborhood association Raval Abandonat shows a chaotic scene unfolding as several individuals approached the officers, creating a highly volatile atmosphere. While a first shirtless man moved aggressively toward the detained individual, he was restrained and pushed away by bystanders before he could directly intervene. However, moments later, a second shirtless individual emerged and launched a series of kicks at the officer who was still attempting to immobilize the suspect. One of the strikes landed directly on the officer’s face, knocking him to the ground as he clutched his face in pain from the sudden impact.
The unprovoked assault, which unfolded in a matter of seconds while the targeted officer’s mobility was severely restricted, prompted an immediate and forceful response from the rest of the police unit. Additional officers swiftly intervened to regain control of the scene, successfully subduing and immobilizing the alleged attacker to prevent any further violence against the deployed personnel.
Authorities have not yet released official details regarding the exact extent of the assaulted officer’s injuries, nor have they provided public updates on the procedural status or specific charges faced by the individuals involved in the altercation.
The widespread circulation of the video has reignited discussions regarding the occupational hazards faced by law enforcement officers operating in complex urban environments. Police unions and officials frequently highlight the severe risks involved when standard police procedures are disrupted by the sudden and violent interference of third parties, which can compromise the safety of both the officers and the suspects they are detaining.
