Woman Dies After Being Set On Fire By Hitmen On Husband’s Orders In Madrid
MADRID, Spain — A 30-year-old woman has died from severe burns sustained in a horrific attack in which she was set on fire by two hitmen allegedly hired by her husband. The tragic outcome, confirmed by the Government Delegation, raises the number of gender-based violence fatalities in Spain to 29 for the year 2026, marking the third such death in the Community of Madrid.

The brutal assault occurred on February 2 inside the victim’s residence in the municipality of Sevilla la Nueva, located in the Madrid region. According to authorities, the woman was sprayed with a flammable liquid and set ablaze while holding her infant child, who miraculously escaped the attack completely unharmed. The victim suffered critical burns covering at least 50 percent of her body and was immediately transferred to the La Paz University Hospital. Despite months of intensive medical care, she succumbed to her injuries this past Saturday.
Following an extensive investigation, the Civil Guard arrested three individuals on March 23 in connection with the crime. The victim’s husband was detained as the alleged mastermind behind the attack, while two other men were apprehended as the alleged material perpetrators. All three suspects have been held in provisional prison without bail. They were initially charged with attempted homicide, a classification that is now expected to be upgraded to murder or femicide following the victim’s death.
