The fatal collision occurred at approximately 9:00 a.m. at the intersection of Carrer Pallars and Carrer Fluvià in the Sant Martí district. According to witnesses, a deafening crash echoed through the neighborhood as the fleeing vehicle, bearing French license plates and driven by a man of Arab origin, slammed head-on into a car that was waiting for the green light at the intersection.
The Mossos d’Esquadra had been pursuing the suspect after receiving an alert from a hotel reporting that a vehicle with French registration was performing erratic maneuvers in the area. The initial report indicated that the driver appeared to be under the influence of drugs. Despite police efforts to intercept the vehicle, the suspect continued to flee at high speed, eventually driving in the wrong direction along Carrer Pallars before the catastrophic collision.
The vehicle that was struck at the traffic light was occupied by a man and a woman. Emergency services arrived at the scene within seconds of the impact and worked frantically to extract the victims from the wreckage. The woman was successfully evacuated and transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, while both drivers—the suspect and the male occupant of the struck vehicle—were pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with residents describing the loud explosion-like sound of the crash that alerted them to the tragedy. The intersection was immediately sealed off by authorities as forensic teams began their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal pursuit.
The Mossos d’Esquadra have launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact sequence of events leading up to the collision and to verify the initial reports regarding the suspect’s alleged drug use. Authorities are also reviewing whether proper pursuit protocols were followed during the chase.
As the investigation continues, local officials are examining the broader implications of high-speed pursuits in densely populated urban areas and the balance between public safety and law enforcement objectives.
