LLEIDA, Spain — Five people were injured, including the driver of the vehicle, following a sudden explosion inside a parked car on a street in the city of Lleida on Saturday morning. Emergency services responded rapidly to the scene as authorities launched an investigation into the cause of the blast.

According to the Catalan Firefighters (Bombers de la Generalitat), the incident occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m. The explosion took place inside a vehicle parked on Lluís Companys street, in the immediate vicinity of the Teatro Municipal del Matadero. The force of the deflagration sent debris flying into the surrounding area, striking both the driver and four pedestrians who were passing by at the time.
Emergency medical personnel evaluated all five victims at the scene. One individual sustained serious injuries and was urgently transported to the Arnau de Vilanova Hospital for advanced medical care. The remaining four individuals suffered less severe injuries, with two specifically treated for contusions resulting from the impact of the vehicle’s fragments.

Preliminary assessments by investigators have successfully ruled out the presence of a butane gas cylinder. Early evidence currently points toward the accidental or intentional detonation of an aerosol canister left inside the vehicle as the most likely trigger for the blast.
