VIC, Spain — Five police officers were injured, one seriously, during a violent ambush by two brothers of Moroccan origin in the Catalan city of Vic, prompting a heavy police presence and subsequent judicial action that led to the remand of one suspect in custody. The chaotic arrest unfolded on Monday, June 15, in the Remei neighborhood, highlighting the severe risks faced by law enforcement when apprehending highly conflictive individuals.
Moroccan Man Rapes A Terminally ill Woman In The Palliative Care Unit At Ibiza Hospital
The incident occurred at approximately noon in the entrance portal of an apartment building on Ronda dels Ausetans. Undercover agents from the regional police investigation unit had located the two Moroccan brothers, who are well-known to local authorities for a lengthy history of property and violent crimes. As the plainclothes officers moved to identify and arrest the suspects, the situation rapidly escalated into extreme hostility. One of the brothers violently attacked a female undercover agent, throwing her to the ground. As she radioed for urgent backup, her partner struggled to subdue the attacker, while the second brother joined the fray, kicking at the officers and attempting to pull them away.
The arrival of uniformed backup from the Citizen Security Unit did not immediately quell the violence. When one of the uniformed officers entered the building’s portal to restrain the second suspect, who was described as being of large physical build, the man offered fierce resistance. During the intense physical struggle, the suspect repeatedly attempted to access the officer’s service weapon, reaching for the holster in an attempt to draw the firearm. According to local media with access to the police incident report, the suspect also issued severe threats against the officer and his family.
The physical altercation resulted in significant injuries to five officers. One uniformed officer sustained a deep laceration on his arm requiring 17 stitches, along with puncture wounds to his fingers. Investigators believe the suspect used a set of house keys as an improvised stabbing weapon during the scuffle. The officer reportedly only realized the severity of his wounds while escorting one of the detained men to the police vehicle. The female undercover agent suffered multiple contusions and cervical whiplash after being violently pulled by her hair, while three additional officers sustained bruising to their arms, legs, and knees. Compounding the chaos, relatives of the suspects actively interfered with the arrest, with one family member physically grabbing an officer by the waist in an attempt to prevent the transport of the arrested men.

The suspects were identified as 20-year-old Achraf B. and 21-year-old Moraouene B., both Moroccan nationals with extensive criminal records. Achraf, who had approximately thirty prior offenses, was already subject to a pending arrest warrant for his alleged involvement in three recent home burglaries across the Osona region, including incidents in Hostalets de Balenyà, Taradell, and Vic. Following the ambush, both brothers were charged with assaulting agents of the authority, resistance, and causing injuries. Achraf faces additional charges for disobedience, threats, and the aforementioned burglaries. The investigation into the property crimes remains ongoing, as authorities do not rule out the involvement of additional accomplices.
The legal consequences for the suspects began to materialize on Wednesday when both brothers appeared before a judge in Vic. The magistrate ordered Achraf to be remanded in custody at a youth detention center due to the severity of the charges and his criminal history. Following the judicial hearing, tensions flared outside the courthouse as approximately 30 friends and relatives of the suspects gathered to shout insults at the police. Riot officers from the ARRO unit were deployed to the area, successfully identifying the individuals and preventing the situation from escalating further. Despite the calm restoration, authorities maintained a heightened security perimeter around the courts, remaining on alert for potential nighttime disturbances as the detained individuals were transferred to the correctional facility.
