Police Prevent Attempted Storming of Gambian Embassy in Madrid Amid Rush for Vulnerability Certificates

Madrid, Spain — Spanish National Police intervened on Tuesday morning to prevent several migrants waiting outside the Gambian Embassy in Madrid from forcing their way into the building after hours of queuing to obtain a vulnerability certificate, one of the legal pathways to access Spain’s migrant regularization process.

The incident occurred at around 10:00 a.m. at the Gambian Embassy, located on Hernández Iglesias Street in Madrid’s central district. Officers from the National Police’s Prevention and Reaction Unit (UPR) were dispatched to the scene, according to police sources.

Once officers arrived, the Gambian migrants gathered outside reportedly calmed down, and no further police action was required. Authorities stated that no arrests were made and order was restored quickly.

The vulnerability certificate is one of three routes — alongside family status and social integration criteria — through which eligible migrants may apply for the extraordinary regularization program proposed by Spain’s central government.

The program has faced criticism from several public administrations, which argue that insufficient resources have been allocated to process the growing number of applications.
