MADRID, Spain – The Ministry of the Interior has reinforced surveillance at the Ceuta border following the appearance on social media of new calls attempting mass entries in the coming days, with one of the dates indicated being this Sunday, though summonses for other days in September are also circulating. The Civil Guard has received instructions to increase border control, while the Maritime Service will intensify patrols around various Spanish territories in North Africa, including the Peñón de Vélez de la Gomera, the Alhucemas Islands, the Chafarinas Islands and the Perejil islet, with the National Police also remaining on alert for possible attempts at irregular entry.

Moroccan authorities have raised the level of security surveillance and reinforced measures in several northern regions, especially in the city of Fnideq, the Moroccan name for Castillejos, and the border areas with the enclave of Ceuta, to prevent any attempt at mass migration whether by land or sea, according to the digital outlet Hespress.

Citing official sources that prefer to remain anonymous, the outlet explained that the reinforcements include the establishment of checkpoints on several roads leading to Tetouan and Castillejos to monitor any suspicious movement of people wishing to migrate irregularly to Ceuta. It emphasised that authorities are imposing strict controls on main roads and intensifying security patrols near the points and routes leading to the border crossing, with the aim of preventing concentrations of people.
