MADRID, Spain – Spain is taking the leap to electric vehicles and going faster than ever, according to the figures, with zero-emission vehicles continuing to conquer Spanish streets and reaching a new record last September, as shown by data published by the manufacturers’ association Anfac. In the ninth month of the year 93,858 registrations were recorded, and of all of them 16.5 per cent were fully electric vehicles, thanks among others to the Tesla Model 3.

The flagship model from Elon Musk’s firm became the best-selling model of the entire month, ahead of other hybrid or combustion options and even surpassing the usual big sellers such as the Seat Ibiza with 2,183, the Dacia Sandero with 2,157 and the Toyota Corolla with 2,138, models that not only had a good September but have been the great favourites of local buyers in the overall year’s tally, a list into which the Model 3 has not yet slipped but which, at this pace, no one says it could not achieve.
👀 #Coches #ventas #DaciaSandero #España #Tesla ♬ sonido original – Quecochemecompro
This is especially so given the leadership this model has shown among electric vehicles, because it has not only become the favourite but has smashed the rest, with its sibling the Tesla Model Y in second place achieving 1,205 deliveries, less than half, and the rest even further behind, with the third-placed BYD Dolphin Surf at 663 registrations, the Kia EV3 at 558 and the BYD Atto 3 at 535. An identical trend is drawn in the cumulative figures so far this year, with the same names dominating the top four of sales and the Model 3 again showing the great pull it is having in 2026, with 8,468 registrations to date, almost double the Model Y at 4,972, and also doing the same with the rest of the contenders such as the BYD Dolphin Surf at 4,334, the Kia EV3 at 3,828 and the Toyota C-HR+ at 3,359, data that highlights the great popularity of the American model on Spanish soil.

Its catalogue has four different versions, with the entry-level one starting with 283 horsepower under the bonnet and promising a range of around 572 kilometres thanks to a battery of about 60 kWh. Also rear-wheel drive is the next option, which steps up in terms of battery with 78 kWh, making it the one with the greatest range at up to 750 kilometres without needing to look for a plug, and in terms of power it is no slouch either with 320 horsepower. The larger-capacity battery has also been chosen for the third version, which takes a leap forward in terms of performance with 498 horsepower and all-wheel drive, though the range takes a small step back with 660 kilometres sacrificed in favour of performance. Finally, Musk’s brand has also included another option with 460 horsepower and all-wheel drive, capable of reaching around 570 kilometres without having to plug it into a charger.
