MADRID, Spain – The Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party has distanced itself from the mobilisations planned for September 2 in front of town halls across the country and has prohibited its mayors from taking part, with the party leadership issuing an internal statement accusing the Popular Party of attempting to use the situation politically.
Soros-linked NGO Groups Accused Of Instructing Ceuta Migrants In Making Homemade Explosives
According to the document, the president of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces has sent a call to municipalities and provinces to hold rallies on September 2 at 8:00 p.m. in front of town halls, but the initiative was carried out without reaching agreement with the rest of the federation and violating its democratic functioning.
The socialist leadership accused the PP of using the situation in Ceuta to fuel political confrontation, stating that the PP is using the FEMP and territorial federations at a party level to go against the Government of Spain. While acknowledging that they are aware of the situation their mayors, councillors, and public officials are experiencing, they also recognize how the PP is trying to manipulate this humanitarian crisis, and therefore the PSOE has decided not to participate in these rallies, with notes prepared to defend their position in town halls against the PP’s municipal initiatives.

Despite the directive, one socialist mayor has adopted a different stance, with Cristina Los Arcos, mayor of Espartinas in Seville, announcing a rally in her municipality to support Ceuta on Wednesday, September 2 at 12:00 p.m. in the Town Hall Square, with the call circulated through social media. More than 260 municipalities have backed the rallies in front of their town halls, with the call urging the public to gather at their respective town halls, while in Madrid, a demonstration has been called in front of Congress, and a further protest is planned in Brussels in front of the European Parliament. The decision has highlighted divisions within the Socialist Party over how to respond to the ongoing crisis in Ceuta and the broader political tensions it has generated.
