Basque Police Arrest 20-Year-Old Caught in Act of Street Sexual Assault in Getxo

GETXO, Spain – A 20-year-old man of Latin American origin was arrested early Sunday morning in the Vizcaya municipality of Getxo after Basque police caught him in the act of allegedly sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman on a public street.

Man Arrested in Cadaqués for Sexual Assault

According to the regional Department of Security, the incident unfolded around 5:00 a.m. in the Algorta neighborhood when a group of bystanders flagged down an Ertzaintza patrol. The witnesses alerted officers to a situation on a nearby street, reporting that they had observed a couple and noticed the young woman was crying and appeared highly distressed.

Upon arriving at the location, the police patrol discovered the suspect holding the victim by the arms while engaging in sexual acts with her. When an officer intervened to physically separate the man from the woman, the suspect reacted aggressively to the interruption. Authorities were forced to handcuff the individual to ensure the safety of everyone at the scene. Preliminary information suggests that the suspect and the victim had met earlier that same night.

Alleged Montjuïc Sexual Assailant Attacks Prison Officers

Following the arrest, the Ertzaintza launched a formal investigation into the incident and immediately activated the specialized emergency protocol for victims of crimes against sexual freedom. The 19-year-old victim was promptly transported to Cruces Hospital for medical evaluation and care, while the suspect was taken into police custody to face charges.
