VALENCIA, Spain — A 46-year-old man remains in critical condition in an intensive care unit following a brutal, seemingly unprovoked assault in Valencia, which has led to the arrest of an Algerian national. The violent incident occurred last Friday evening in the Sant Marcel·lí neighborhood, leaving the victim with severe, life-threatening injuries, including a cerebral hemorrhage.
According to local authorities, the attack took place at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Carrer Enginyer José Sirera. The victim had just finished visiting his mother when he was suddenly ambushed by the alleged assailant. Preliminary reports indicate that the man sustained multiple blows and kicks, with several strikes directed at his head, resulting in a severe brain hemorrhage.
Emergency medical services responded rapidly to the scene, providing immediate stabilization before transporting the victim to Hospital Doctor Peset. Due to the critical nature of his injuries, he was subsequently transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Hospital La Fe, where he remains under constant medical supervision with a very grave prognosis. Sources close to the investigation revealed that the victim, who was wearing an arm cast at the time of the attack, was reportedly awaiting a kidney and pancreas transplant, adding a layer of profound vulnerability to his current medical state.

Investigators have indicated that there appears to be no prior relationship or known motive connecting the suspect and the victim, suggesting a random act of extreme violence. Following the assault, the Valencia Local Police swiftly located and detained the Algerian national as the presumed perpetrator. He has since been formally placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
The case is now in the hands of the corresponding court, which will determine the appropriate precautionary measures. Given the severity of the injuries and the ongoing nature of the investigation, authorities anticipate that the judge may order provisional imprisonment for the suspect to ensure he does not flee or interfere with the judicial process while the facts are fully established.
