The Canary Islands Government detailed that at 6.42am a general failure of the electricity system occurred and the power supply was completely lost. Faced with this situation, the PLATECA alert situation is declared for the purposes of monitoring the evolution of the incident, supporting coordination between the administrations and bodies involved and assessing possible effects on essential services.
The State Meteorological Agency activated the red alert for rain in the east of the island at 2am local time, as convective activity developed with notable intensity in the east of the island, where accumulations of up to 62 litres per square metre in one hour and 138 litres in 12 hours were recorded. The agency has now lowered the warning to an orange alert, a significant risk level that will remain in place throughout the day.
