MADRID, Spain – The Centre for Sociological Research has placed the PSOE sharply higher in its latest barometer, conducted after Maricarmen’s eviction and during the days when the government suffered a resounding defeat in Congress over its two housing decrees but also when this led Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez to bring forward the general election. The other party benefiting from the situation is Vox, while the poll places the PP at its lowest level of vote estimate, with the parties to the left of the Socialists experiencing a slight rise.
Ceuta Crisis Takes Its Toll On Socialists As Vox Capitalises On Discontent
These are the conclusions of the latest survey by the centre chaired by José Félix Tezanos, which gives Pedro Sánchez’s PSOE 34 per cent of voting intention, three points more than a month ago amid the Ceuta crisis and almost twelve percentage points above Alberto Núñez Feijóo’s PP, which would obtain only 22.2 per cent, three points less than in the previous survey, partly to the benefit of Vox, which would rise two points to 17.1 per cent. The parties to the left of the PSOE, for their part, would experience a slight rise of a few tenths each despite their disagreements over forming a joint candidacy, with Sumar, or Frente Amplio as it will now be called, achieving 6.1 per cent of vote estimate while Podemos would remain at 3.1 per cent.
In addition, one in four respondents, 25.3 per cent, has already decided to vote PSOE if the elections were tomorrow, compared with 14.7 per cent for the PP and 11.6 per cent for Vox, though 17.3 per cent still do not know who they will vote for, 2.6 per cent prefer not to answer and 5.1 per cent would abstain.
By blocs, the parties of the coalition government reverse the results of the last three months, according to the CIS, and in October move ahead of the sum of PP and Vox with 40.1 per cent for PSOE and Sumar against 39.3 per cent for the opposition. As for regional parties, ERC marks a record with 3 per cent of vote estimate against 1.1 per cent for Junts, while Bildu remains ahead of the PNV with 1.6 per cent against 0.6 per cent for the nationalists.
The assessment of leaders is again headed by Pedro Sánchez with an average score of 4.42 points, ahead of his deputy prime minister Yolanda Díaz at 4.22 and the PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo at 3.43, with Vox’s Santiago Abascal closing the list at 2.89 points.
Pedro Sánchez Calls General Election For November 29
Sánchez also remains the preferred politician to preside over the government with 25.8 per cent support, well ahead of Feijóo at 9.6 per cent, Santiago Abascal at 9.1 per cent and Gabriel Rufián at 8.1 per cent, though 23.6 per cent do not want any of the current leaders. The prime minister has the confidence of 32.9 per cent of respondents against 66 per cent who trust Sánchez little or not at all, but the opposition leader carries even worse figures, with 82 per cent of those interviewed distrusting him against 16.8 per cent who say they have quite a lot or a lot of confidence in him.
