Vox Councilor and Partner Assaulted by Dozens of Arab Immigrants in Terrassa
TERRASSA, Spain — Alicia Tomás, the spokesperson for the VOX party in the Terrassa City Council in the province of Barcelona, and her partner were physically assaulted by a group of individuals, identified by the party as Arab immigrants, following a visit to a local shopping center.

According to a statement released by the political party led by Santiago Abascal, Tomás was walking with her partner and their children when the group approached and struck them. The assault reportedly took place in the presence of the minors, prompting immediate condemnation from VOX officials, who characterized the event as a targeted act of political violence and intimidation.
This physical altercation follows a pattern of hostile acts directed at the councilor in recent months. In June, VOX representatives in Terrassa publicly condemned an act of vandalism in which Tomás’s name and the word “fascist” were spray-painted on a wall in the city. At the time, the party described the graffiti as a clear indicator of the intense hostility that public representatives increasingly face while carrying out their democratic duties.
In response to the recent attack, VOX issued a formal statement criticizing the perpetrators’ “lack of democratic capacity.” The party asserted that when opponents are unable to counter VOX’s political proposals and legislative work with substantive arguments, they resort to personal targeting, vandalism, and physical aggression.
Addressing the incident publicly, Councilor Tomás attributed the violence to the broader political environment in the municipality. She stated that the “climate of hatred and targeting” allegedly fostered by local institutions, specifically referencing Terrassa Mayor Jordi Ballart and the Socialists’ Party of Catalonia (PSC), has direct and dangerous consequences. Tomás firmly declared that such intimidation tactics would not succeed in silencing her or deterring her from her political activities, vowing to continue her work despite the hostility.

Local authorities and the Mossos d’Esquadra, the regional police force of Catalonia, are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the assault to identify the perpetrators and determine the full extent of the incident. The event has further intensified the ongoing regional debate regarding political polarization, public discourse, and the security of elected officials.
