BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — Spanish singer Rosalía has become embroiled in a heated controversy in Argentina after sharing a social media post that many have interpreted as mocking the national football team following Spain’s victory over Argentina in the World Cup final. The backlash has prompted widespread calls for a boycott of her upcoming concerts in Buenos Aires.

The controversy centers on a video posted by former adult film actress Mia Khalifa, which Rosalía subsequently shared on her own social media accounts. In the video, Khalifa is seen on a balcony with the Spanish flag, celebrating Spain’s triumph while Rosalía’s song “La Perla” from her album “Motomami” plays in the background. The post included the caption “how life sounds now that the Pearls have been defeated,” a phrase that many Argentine fans interpreted as a deliberate taunt, playing on the dual meaning of “Perlas” (Pearls) and the artist’s song title.
The repost has ignited fury among Argentine football supporters and Rosalía’s own fans in the country, with many now calling for a comprehensive boycott of her scheduled performances. The singer is set to begin a series of four concerts at the Movistar Arena in Buenos Aires starting August 1st, but social media campaigns are now urging fans to either return their tickets or retain them without attending in an effort to leave the venue empty as a form of protest.

In what appears to be an attempt to de-escalate the situation, Rosalía has removed the controversial repost from her social media accounts. However, many observers believe the damage has already been done, as the issue has evolved into a major topic of national debate in Argentina, with social media platforms ablaze with discussions about the incident.
