The incident occurred at approximately 5:40 p.m. at a jewelry shop located on Calle Chile in the city’s central Santa Teresa neighborhood. According to official reports, the four perpetrators—identified as three men and one woman—entered the establishment wearing masks and brandishing a firearm, though authorities have not yet confirmed whether the weapon was real or a replica.
Once inside, the armed group threatened the store’s staff and proceeded to smash two or three glass display cases using sledgehammers. The robbers quickly gathered an undisclosed quantity of jewelry before fleeing the premises. The exact value of the stolen merchandise remains unknown as the investigation is still in its preliminary stages.
The suspects made their getaway in an Audi A-6 sedan. National Police officers who responded to the emergency alarm immediately initiated a pursuit to intercept the fleeing vehicle. However, as the police closed in, the gang deployed fire extinguishers, spraying the chemical liquid directly at the pursuing officers to obstruct their vision and facilitate their escape. This aggressive tactical maneuver allowed the robbers to successfully break away from the police cordon and evade immediate apprehension.
