The incident occurred on Friday morning in the Barcelona province municipality. Following the domestic attack at the residence, the assailant fled toward the coastline while still in possession of the weapon. Upon reaching the beach, he confronted a patrol of Mossos d’Esquadra officers who attempted to subdue him using an electric taser. However, the device failed to incapacitate the man, who then entered San Sebastián beach and proceeded to swim approximately 900 meters toward the Paseo de la Ribera.

According to Mossos d’Esquadra authorities, the attacker suffers from a psychiatric disorder and appeared to be experiencing a psychotic episode at the time of the incident. The man remained in the water for over thirty minutes, displaying aggressive behavior toward the police officers who had surrounded the area. Law enforcement officials were forced to close the beach and order all swimmers and beachgoers to evacuate the premises for public safety.

The standoff concluded when Maritime Rescue personnel threw a flotation device to the man, enabling him to exit the water safely. Once he was removed from the sea and taken into custody, authorities reopened the beach and allowed bathers to return to the area.

The victim, the man’s mother, was transported to a nearby hospital by the Medical Emergency Service following the stabbing. Medical personnel have indicated that while she sustained injuries from the attack, her condition is not considered life-threatening.
