BARCELONA, Spain — A violent mass brawl involving multiple individuals, one armed with a large bladed weapon, erupted at Mar Bella beach in the early hours of Wednesday morning following the traditional Sant Joan festivities. The incident occurred at approximately 6:00 a.m. on June 24, as the city’s beaches were still crowded with revelers celebrating the midsummer holiday.

According to witness accounts, the conflict allegedly began when several individuals destroyed a tent where music was being played, triggering the violent altercation. The brawl resulted in at least one arrest for a stabbing incident at Mar Bella beach. Overall, the Sant Joan festivities across Barcelona’s coastline resulted in 11 detentions, 32 medical emergencies attended by the Medical Emergency Service (SEM), and 17 hospital transfers, though authorities confirmed that none of the injuries were life-threatening.

Barcelona’s Third Deputy Mayor, Albert Batlle, accompanied by Mayor Jaume Collboni, addressed the media at the Bogatell breakwaters on Wednesday to provide an assessment of the night’s events. The officials reported that approximately 90,000 people had gathered on Barcelona’s beaches throughout the celebration, resulting in the collection of 70 tons of waste from the shoreline areas.
