The incident occurred around 9:09 a.m. on Friday at the intersection of Calle Doctor Fleming and Calle Guardia Civil. According to reports from the Emergency Services Coordination Center (112 Comunidad de Madrid), a 49-year-old man was carrying his young son in his arms when both were struck by a passenger vehicle traveling at low speed as they crossed at a curved pedestrian crosswalk.
As a result of the impact, the child fell from his father’s grasp and sustained a severe blow to the head against the road surface. Emergency medical personnel from Summa 112, the regional emergency health service, responded immediately to the scene. The child was intubated and stabilized on-site before being transported by medical helicopter to Hospital 12 de Octubre in Madrid, where he remains admitted in very serious condition with a severe traumatic brain injury.
The father sustained minor injuries in the incident and was also transported to the same hospital for evaluation and treatment. Local Police agents attended the scene to secure the area and begin preliminary documentation of the circumstances surrounding the collision. The Civil Guard has assumed lead responsibility for the investigation into the incident.
Pedestrian safety remains a priority concern for traffic authorities in urban and suburban areas throughout the Madrid region. Curved crosswalks and intersections with limited visibility present particular challenges for both drivers and pedestrians, requiring heightened attention and reduced speeds to ensure safe passage.

Under Spanish traffic regulations, drivers are required to yield the right of way to pedestrians at marked crosswalks and to exercise particular caution in areas where children, elderly individuals, or persons with reduced mobility may be present. Violations of these provisions can result in administrative penalties, and in cases involving injury or fatality, may lead to criminal prosecution.
For families and communities affected by traffic incidents, victim support services and crisis counseling resources are available through regional health and social services. Authorities have emphasized the importance of allowing investigative procedures to proceed without interference while respecting the privacy and dignity of those involved.
As the investigation continues, authorities have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who possesses relevant information, including dashcam footage or photographs, to come forward through official channels. Further updates regarding the child’s medical condition, investigative findings, and any related traffic safety measures are expected as the Civil Guard and relevant agencies provide additional information through verified sources.
