BARCELONA, Spain – Two Civil Guard officers were injured in a shooting in Terrassa on Thursday night, and the Mossos d’Esquadra have arrested three people in the early hours of Friday for their alleged connection to the events. One of the two injured officers received four bullet impacts and is hospitalised in serious but stable condition, with one transferred to the Taulí Hospital in Sabadell and the other to the Mútua de Terrassa.
Man Executed With Shot To The Head In Central Barcelona
The events occurred at around 10pm on Thursday on Carrer Europa in the co-capital of the Vallès Occidental region, when four men opened fire in the street against the two plainclothes officers, according to the Unified Association of Civil Guards. The Civil Guard’s General Directorate explained that the officers were on duty when they detected a vehicle at the AP-7’s Porta de Barcelona that aroused their suspicions. According to a statement, after identifying the occupants, the latter fled while attempting to run them over. The officers determined that the vehicle’s presumed location was in the Can Parellada neighbourhood, and when searching for the occupants of the car, the latter identified the officers and opened fire on them at around 10.30pm, with the Civil Guard personnel repelling the attack with their service weapons.
The shootout was recorded from a balcony by a local resident and has spread on social media. The images show how the attackers fire at the officers and one of them even opens fire with a shotgun, while other members of the group beat a wounded officer lying on the ground with a stick. Jose, a resident of Carrer Europa where the events occurred and who this morning found a bullet embedded in his front door, said the attackers said they were police when they were already on the ground, that some boys came and hit him, then ran off and afterwards the police appeared, adding that something like this had never happened there before.
The Civil Guard’s Criminal Investigation Division has an open investigation into the incident. So far, the Mossos have confirmed the arrest of three people for their alleged connection to the shooting, and the fourth person involved is being sought. The government delegate in Catalonia, Carlos Prieto, said through social media that he is monitoring the medical evolution of the injured together with the Civil Guard’s zone chief general, thanking the emergency services, the hospitals involved and the Mossos for their work.
Third Shooting In Hours Across Catalonia
Throughout the morning, Mossos and Civil Guard officers remained at the scene, where they cordoned off the street where the attackers were arrested, while forensic police took samples from the site where the shots were fired, a hundred metres from where the detentions were carried out. The Civil Guard association JUCIL condemned the shooting, denouncing through a statement that the attackers had come close to killing two colleagues. The organisation demanded that those responsible be brought before the courts and called for recognition of the profession of risk for Civil Guard officers and salary equalisation with other police forces. For the association, the shooting is not an isolated event but a sign of the loss of the principle of authority that, in its view, security forces are suffering, also calling for legal, psychological and medical assistance for the injured and their families.
