MADRID, Spain – A maintenance work train in Seville has derailed, causing the closure of a commuter rail line, with Adif reporting no injuries or deaths and the derailment occurring in the La Negrilla area on the same day as the rail accident in Urda, Toledo.
Tragedy on the AVE: Two Trains Collide in Toledo on the Madrid-Seville Line
The incident occurred at 8.40pm at Padre Pío Palmete station, where a work train carrying only the driver derailed, leaving him unharmed, with Adif reporting an hour later that traffic on the C4 line of the Seville commuter network was interrupted. The convoy was carrying empty material carriages and derailed for unknown reasons during a manoeuvre, with the causes under investigation, and the commuter line where the derailment occurred remains closed, running a circular route connecting Santa Justa station, Palacio de Congresos, Padre Pío-Palmete, Hospital Virgen del Rocío and San Bernardo.
“Traffic on the C4 line of the Seville commuter network is interrupted due to the axles of a maintenance work train coming off the tracks in La Negrilla,” Adif reported, with Renfe warning that the Seville commuter service will be “heavily affected” on Thursday and recommending that users seek alternative means of transport, without detailing the specific disruptions expected during the day or how long they might last.
