MADRID, Spain – The Unified Police Union has reported that more than ten individuals identified among the migrants who stormed the Ceuta border have prior jihadist records, with the organisation demanding greater commitment from the Interior Ministry to complete the identification of all those who entered the autonomous city in late July. According to the union, identification efforts have already detected more than ten people with prior records, warnings, or links to jihadist radicalism, though it cannot provide a closed figure as checks are ongoing, while insisting that sources confirm the number exceeds ten, with two of those profiles already expelled from Spain.

For the union, completing the identification of these individuals is not a mere bureaucratic procedure but a matter directly affecting national security, and it is calling for maximum coordination between the National Police, the Civil Guard, and intelligence services. It is also demanding that all necessary national and international tools be made available to these bodies for thorough filtering. The union acknowledges that the simultaneous arrival of thousands of people prevented the application of the individual border controls normally carried out, but considers that the state now has an obligation to complete that pending work as soon as possible, allocating all necessary human and technological resources.
The organisation argues that it would be a mistake to downplay the fact that these checks are bringing to light individuals with jihadist links requiring specialised analysis, and insists that its intention is not to fuel social alarm but to prevent it, and that ignoring this information would be irresponsible. The union is demanding maximum transparency from the Interior Ministry, requesting details on how many profiles of interest have been detected so far, how many remain in Spanish territory, and how many have been returned or expelled.

The union concludes that national security requires identifying and checking the backgrounds of all these individuals without room for improvisation, as prevention in time is much more effective than reacting when it is already too late. The report comes amid growing concerns about security in Ceuta, where the mass entry of migrants has overwhelmed authorities and raised fears about potential risks posed by individuals with extremist connections. The government has not yet responded to the union’s demands for transparency, but the issue is likely to intensify political pressure on the Interior Ministry to accelerate the identification and screening process.
