Three Migrants Arrested for Robbery and Assault on Off-Duty Officer in Ceuta
CEUTA, Spain – National Police in Ceuta have arrested three young Moroccan men allegedly involved in the assault and attempted robbery of a Guardia Civil officer who was off duty, in an incident that occurred around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday near Avenida Cañonero Dato, close to the Carranza petrol station. According to the police report, the officer was approached by a group of at least five individuals who demanded money and, when he refused, began repeatedly punching and kicking him in the face before fleeing towards the port area.

The rapid arrival of patrol units allowed for a search operation to be deployed in the area with the collaboration of the officer himself, who helped identify the alleged perpetrators, and the suspects were found hiding in stairways connecting the Avenida de España roundabout with the Junta de Obras del Puerto neighbourhood. Upon spotting the police presence, the individuals fled on foot and ignored orders to stop, though officers eventually located three of them, who put up strong physical resistance during the arrests.

One of the arrested Moroccan individuals, wearing a blue jacket, was found in the neighbourhood garages and was identified by the victim as the person who pushed and threatened him to demand money. Another, wearing a black jacket and light blue shirt, was found near a supermarket and identified as the alleged perpetrator of the blows to the face and head. The third, wearing a white shirt, was detained near the Decathlon establishment and recognised as the one who had kicked the victim and issued threats during the assault.

All three young men, who arrived illegally in Ceuta on July 30 during the mass entry into the city, remain in police custody and are being investigated for the alleged commission of attempted robbery with violence or intimidation and serious disobedience to authority. The case highlights ongoing security concerns in Ceuta as authorities continue to manage the aftermath of the mass migration event that brought thousands of people into the autonomous city.
