ISLA CRISTINA, Spain – Three people – a woman, her mother, and her minor son – died on Sunday as a result of a shooting in the El Rocío neighbourhood of Isla Cristina in Huelva province, with authorities linking the crime to a shooting that left one man dead and another injured on September 10, 2024, in the El Torrejón neighbourhood of Huelva capital. The two deceased women are identified as the mother-in-law and sister of El Baba, the alleged perpetrator of the shooting two years ago, while the seriously injured individual is his nephew, and the deceased minor, according to the Civil Guard, has no relation to the two women nor any connection to the crime, the main hypothesis for which is a settling of scores.
Third Shooting In Hours Across Catalonia
The incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Sunday when a burst of gunfire resulted in the deaths of three people and left a fourth seriously injured, with two individuals arriving at the area on a motorcycle and one of them firing with a long weapon, causing the fatalities and leaving two others injured, one lightly and an 18-year-old in serious condition. A judicial secrecy order has been imposed on the investigation, and the Civil Guard has activated an extensive security and search operation to locate the suspected perpetrators, reminding the public that any information can be provided confidentially through the 062 telephone number or at any Civil Guard station.
The shooting appears to be the latest episode in an ongoing violent feud that began on September 10, 2024, when a person died and two others were injured in a shooting in the El Torrejón neighbourhood of Huelva capital, with the alleged perpetrator, known as El Baba, arrested days later in Gijón, where a court ordered provisional detention without bail as the alleged perpetrator of a homicide and attempted homicide. According to the Civil Guard, the arrest was carried out because El Baba posed a serious risk to the population and threatened neighbours from a rooftop during the night, even making intimidatory shots, and the Asturian court later deferred jurisdiction to the Investigating Court Number 5 of Huelva, which has been leading the investigation.
The 2024 incident unfolded when the 112 emergency service received around a dozen calls from neighbours at approximately 2:10 p.m. on September 10, reporting what appeared to be a shooting in the Plaza Violeta of El Torrejón, with Local Police, National Police, and health services deploying to the scene, where one death and two injuries were confirmed. Subsequent shootings in Isla Cristina have been linked to these 2024 events, including a Civil Guard operation in May 2025 in which three people, including a minor and relatives of the accused in the El Torrejón death, were arrested on suspicion of illegal weapons possession and offences against public safety, with two shotguns, a pistol, ammunition of various calibres, and more than 58,000 euros in cash seized, though a court in Ayamonte ordered the provisional release of the two adult detainees.
Police Investigate Nighttime Shooting On Calafell waterfront; One Injured
The Civil Guard explained that the ongoing violence stems from a dispute over family grudges that erupted in September 2024 in El Torrejón, when a man died and another was injured by gunfire, triggering an open conflict between two clans, with the family of the deceased even offering a 50,000-euro reward for valid information that could facilitate the location of the fugitive. The investigation into Sunday’s triple homicide continues under judicial secrecy, with authorities working to locate the two individuals who fled on the motorcycle and to determine whether the attack was directly retaliatory in nature. The violence has shocked the small coastal town, where residents have expressed growing alarm over the escalating feud that has now claimed multiple lives across two provinces.
