L’HOSPITALET DE LLOBREGAT, Catalonia — A man sustained a gunshot wound to the arm during a shooting incident in the Florida neighborhood of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat in the early hours of Saturday, marking the second firearm-related disturbance in the city within a matter of weeks, according to local emergency services and police authorities.
Shooting In L’Hospitalet’s Sant Josep Neighborhood Leaves Community On Edge
Emergency responders received reports of multiple gunshots around 5:00 a.m. in the residential blocks of the Florida district, an area that experienced a similar incident involving firearms approximately two months prior. Multiple patrol units from the Mossos d’Esquadra, Catalonia’s regional police force, alongside medical emergency personnel from the Sistema d’Emergències Mèdiques (SEM), were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers located an injured individual in the street. The victim, described as being of Maghrebi origin, had sustained a minor gunshot wound to the arm. Medical personnel provided initial treatment at the scene before transporting the man by ambulance to Hospital de Bellvitge for further evaluation and care.
The suspected shooter, reportedly of South American origin, fled the scene immediately following the incident. No arrests were made during the initial response, and authorities have not yet identified or located the individual responsible for discharging the firearm.
The Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) of the Mossos d’Esquadra has assumed responsibility for the case, with investigators working to identify the perpetrators and determine the motivation behind the shooting. During preliminary inquiries at the scene, officers recovered a Glock-brand pistol. Forensic examination is underway to establish whether this weapon was used in the incident.
This early-morning shooting represents the second firearm-related incident in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat in recent days. On May 17, officers from the Municipal Guard detained a Moroccan man approximately 30 years of age following a separate shooting on Carrer Batllori in the Sant Josep neighborhood. In that incident, the suspect and an accomplice fled the scene by vehicle but were intercepted after a pursuit through city streets; the primary suspect was detained while his companion escaped on foot. No injuries were reported in that earlier confrontation.

The recurrence of violent incidents in L’Hospitalet has prompted the Mossos d’Esquadra to activate “Plan Bastió,” a targeted security initiative designed to reinforce police presence and restore public safety in areas experiencing elevated levels of criminal activity. The plan typically involves increased patrols, enhanced surveillance, and coordinated operations between regional and local law enforcement agencies.
L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, the second-most populous city in Catalonia and part of the Barcelona metropolitan area, has experienced periodic challenges related to public order and organized crime. Municipal and regional authorities have emphasized commitments to addressing underlying factors contributing to insecurity while maintaining robust enforcement against violent offenses.
Under Spanish criminal law, illegal possession of firearms, discharging weapons in public spaces, and assault with a deadly weapon constitute serious criminal offenses carrying significant penalties upon conviction. Prosecutors will evaluate all available evidence, including forensic analysis of the recovered weapon, witness statements, surveillance footage, and ballistic testing, to determine appropriate charges and procedural next steps.
For residents in affected neighborhoods, authorities have reiterated the importance of reporting suspicious activity, unusual sounds, or concerning behavior to police immediately to enable timely intervention. Community engagement and information-sharing remain central components of broader public safety strategies designed to address both immediate security concerns and longer-term preventive measures.
